Scope of Work

PD Ports engaged Total Water Solutions to carry out a wide-ranging programme of legionella control and water system safety services across their operational sites. The scope included:

  • Legionella Risk Assessments to identify potential sources of bacterial growth and ensure compliance with the Health & Safety Executive’s ACoP L8 guidance.
  • Remote Temperature Sensing to remove the need for frequent on-site visits and manual temperature checks, enabling real-time monitoring and faster response times while reducing disruption to day-to-day operations.
  • Staff Training to empower PD Ports’ teams with the knowledge needed to identify issues early and maintain compliance.

Industry-Specific Challenges

Port environments present unique challenges due to the complexity of their infrastructure, wide distribution of assets, and the critical importance of uninterrupted operations. TWS provided tailored, unobtrusive support to minimise disruption while maintaining the highest standards of health and safety.

Expert Insight

Michael Dean, Water Systems Manager at Total Water Solutions, commented:

“All commercial and industrial organisations, including ports, are legally required to comply with the Health & Safety Executive’s Approved Code of Practice (L8) regarding the control of Legionella bacteria in water systems.

Failure to do so can result in prosecution under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH). Our role is to help clients like PD Ports stay ahead of risk through tailored solutions, ongoing support, and practical training. We’re proud to deliver peace of mind in critical infrastructure environments.”
